After extensive consultation with Indigenous Cree communities in Northern Quebec, we developed a Recognition of Acquired Competencies (RAC) program for the Cree School Board, which is a customized training program that allows women and men who already have work experience in the vocational trades to receive accreditation for their skills. This accreditation helps to increase self-esteem and upward professional mobility for the indigenous labour force in Northern Quebec. We created the program’s conceptual framework, developed the program budget, adapted the tools and pedagogical methodology for a Cree context, trained Cree School Board teachers in the RAC approach, executed an extensive communications campaign throughout the nine Cree communities in Northern Quebec, and began the implementation of the program.
